City and Hackney Dietetics Service
We are a team of experts in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics
working to promote nutritional health and wellbeing. We translate
scientific knowledge into practical advice and information to
support the diverse population of Hackney and the City. The aim of
our service is to promote good nutrition to help prevent disease,
improve quality of life and aid recovery.
Dietitians are the only qualified professionals to assess,
diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems. You can be
re-assured that your dietitian is an appropriately trained
professional, registered and fit to practice as a dietitian by
checking the Health Professional
Council web site.
Our services
We work in many locations across Hackney and the City, using a
variety of methods and approaches, providing knowledge and skills
to help you make lifestyle and diet choices. We use up to date
evidence based information to provide you with the best nutrition
advice and support. We work with all age groups both on a public
health community level as well as on a one to one individual
basis.
Dietitians advise on special diets that may be required as a
part of your medical treatment.
Our service provision includes:
- Outpatient clinics for individual nutritional assessment,
development of nutrition care plans, and dietary counseling
- Home visits for referred patients who are house bound and thus
unable to make an outpatient appointment
- Advice for local nursing homes and other care agencies about
clients with nutritional concerns
- Monitoring and supporting clients on Home Enteral Feeding
- Regular outpatient clinics at locations across Hackney
including Children’s Centres and health centres.
- Supporting and training members of the primary healthcare team
to provide accurate and consistent nutritional information.
We also work to raise awareness of nutrition and ensure
nutritional information is accurate and appropriate in a number of
ways including:
- Supporting the production or purchase of culturally appropriate
nutrition education resources
- Providing formal or informal education sessions for patient or
other user groups on request
- Supporting national and local nutrition related health
campaigns
- Participating in local health fairs and other educational
events
- Supporting the Hackney Healthy Schools Programme
- Consultancy work to both statutory and voluntary organisations,
upon request
- Advising on nutritional components of national policy
- Developing and assisting implementation of local nutrition
related policies such as infant feeding policy and breastfeeding
policy
- Runnning Cook and Eat sessions for children, young people and
their families in children's centres and early years settings. This
is a fun way to learn about how to make healthier food
choices.
